20 meter long artwork by ArtScience alumna Nicky Assmann in Forum Groningen

2 December 2019

Artist and ArtScience alumna Nicky Assmann has developed a captivating artwork specifically for the parking garage of Forum Groningen. Wervel is an ingenious, twenty-meter long multimedia sculpture inspired by the shape of a tornado.

On 20 November, 2019, the innovative LED sculpture was unveiled in the parking space of the Forum Groningen. According to Nicky Assmann, this artwork is a representation of turbulence. At the same time it is a metaphor for the time we live in and the dynamics of the new building Forum Groningen. Inspired by a tornado, the work follows the contours of the architecture of the new cultural building located at the Grote Markt in Groningen.

The artwork was commissioned by the CBK Groningen (Center for Visual Arts) and was made possible with a contribution by the Mondriaan Fund.
