KABK Art and Design Research Practices explores and shares a range of research methods practiced at KABK that use the tools, approaches, and capacities of art and design to create and surface new knowledge. Our first edition focused on on walking as a research method, and our second looks at the role of touch in research, particularly in relation to materials and matter.
Kabinets
The KABK Art and Design Research Practices initiative presents its displays in the two black metal-framed glass cases in the KABK Prinsessegracht Lobby. The cases were specified by the architect J.H. Plantenga, who also created the floorplans for the Academy’s modernist building, completed in 1937, and were probably designed by the architect J.W.E Buijs. They were originally used to showcase student work as well as smaller pieces from the Academy’s extensive collection of historical plaster casts.
The cabinets are now being reactivated as a KABK research-focused display forum.
