Highlights of the Graduation Festival 2019

The Graduation Festival at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK) features work by the graduating bachelor and master students of our art and design departments. This year the programme includes exhibitions, performances, guided tours, lunch meetings, artist talks, diploma ceremonies, a radio show and a graduation shop!

These festive events are unique moments for our students to celebrate their graduation. They are also a great opportunity for our visitors to view the diverse creative work produced in the academy and a chance to spot the art and design talents of the future.

Mushroom Radio

Daily broadcast
Mushroom Radio, is a digital radio station created in an effort to amplify the current extra-curricular activities from students of the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. During the Graduation Festival it will run by graduating students Jack Bardwell (Master Interior Architecture, INSIDE) and Esther Vane (Graphic Design) introducing a full programme of audio performances, readings, music and interviews.

Mushroom Radio was set up to seek out and celebrate the extra-curricular activity that we could see happening around us within the school and to galvanise it.

For both Esther and Jack the radio is closely tied with their graduation projects relating to art and design education. For Jack it forms part of a larger strategy for “The School within The School” in which several platforms offer a different, student run, functioning of the institution from within its walls. For Esther it is part of her research into the importance of the validation of the institution for how we value art and design in society and is informing a video documentary she is making on the subject. They both hope it can become a permanent fixture in the school, left for future generations to keep the broadcasts going
