Navigating the Complexities of Social Identities in Psychedelic Therapy

Psychedelic therapy can be a gateway to help us access and connect with the deepest truths of our humanity. This therapy can also, however, reveal the embodied, psychological, and ancestral wounds that come from existing in a world that privileges whiteness and characteristics of white supremacy culture (e.g. perfectionism, power hoarding, scarcity mindset, etc.).

BIPOC communities continue to be left behind in psychedelic therapy research, calling attention to concerns around culturally responsible care in this form of medicine work. Join this session as the speaker and moderator explore navigating the complexities of social identities in psychedelic therapy.

Bio:

Sara Reed is an empathic leader, mental health futurist, and intuitive healer and has spent much of her early career examining the ways culture informs the way we diagnose and treat mental illness. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Creative Executive of Mind's iHealth Solutions, a mental health technology and service company committed to changing how we talk about mental wellness. Sara's prior research work includes participating as a Study Therapist in clinical trials for MDMA-assisted psychotherapy and Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy. Whenever she can, she loves to be in the sun and learn about plants and aquatic animals (she is a Pisces!).

Camille Barton (they/them) is an interdisciplinary artist, educator and embodiment researcher, who uses afrofuturism to imagine creative interventions towards systems change. They are invested in breaking down the mind body separation that is dominant in Western paradigms in order to create more space for flexible thinking, holistic healing and bridging across differences. Camille’s art practice weaves dance, clowning, DJing, facilitation, film and cultural production.
