Studium Generale - Katarina Zdjelar

Artist Katarina Zdjelar examines the behavior of people by reinventing their identity through a choreography of language, voice, and body language – as they move between different situations and cultures. These artistic interests find their focus in the creation of different platforms for speculation, knowledge building, and exchange.

In her work personal expectations and desires are linked to larger social issues, such as the constant pressure to perform in today’s society. The practice of Zdjelar consists of making video pieces, sound pieces, book projects and platforms for speculation, knowledge building and exchange.

Lecture: Choreography of Language

For this lecture she will elaborate more on the works she made, including one of her newest works for the Prix de Rome which is based on archival documents from a dance studio, founded in 1945 in post war Dresden. Folding the past into the present, Zdjelar’s film engages with acts of maternal (proto) feminist pacifism, solidarity and collective transformation across the barriers of time, class and social difference.
