Installation Phantasmagoria in the Centrale Bibliotheek Den Haag

From 15 December 2017 to 27 January 2018 the graduation project by Iris Erkelens (BA Interior Architecture) can be seen at the Historic Information Point of the central public library in The Hague.

Installation Phantasmagoria

The installation is a bridge between the visitors of the library to the personally requested information from the Indonesian Familie Archive (IFA). The installation is a cloud of images of general heritage in the city that has to do with the Indonesian past. They are atmospheric images that encourage us to actively search for the personal Indonesian roots with the aid of the archive.

A "Phantasmagoria (făn-tăzˌmə-gôrē-ə, -gōr-) is a sequence of real or imaginaire associative images, as seen in a dream. Constantly changing scenes composed of numerous elements. "In this case about the meeting between the formerly Dutch East Indies and The Hague. An enormous eventful period with many perspectives on what has happened. It is a shredded memory of a generation that is almost extinct. So it is important to record for the successive generations. That is why a Phantasmagoria has arisen here, a meeting of all perspectives. As a conversation starter for the visitor and as a bridge between the Indonesian family archive and the person who would like to research more about genealogical, biographical and iconographic data about European and Indo-European families from former Dutch Indonesia. Stop by and walk around in the dreamy situation and discover the many forms of heritage that can be found in the city, the archive and your personal environment.
