One Nest Stand #30: Some World Futures

Every year, Nest organises a One Nest Stand presentation for which students from an art academy get the assignment to make a work in the sphere of one of the exhibitions of Nest.

Students of the Fine Arts department of the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague respond to the exhibition ‘A Fair Share of Utopia’ in which they reflect on the question: “If you were to die today and return one generation later, in what world would you want to be born, no matter where or who you are”.

This question can be found in the essay ‘What if We’re All Coming Back?’ by human rights lawyer Michelle Alexander, published in The New York Times in October 2018.

From the thought experiment of imagining a fundamentally different, sustainable and humane organisation of society, the students speculate about an unknown future of which they themselves are part.

In this trajectory the students are coached by Müge Yilmaz (visual artist), Marius Lut (artist and director of Billytown), Petra Ardai (theatre maker), Jörgen Gario (poet and musician) and Heske ten Cate (artistic director Nest) and Daphne Verberg (programme coordinator).
