Frank Yoon Shun, student Interior Architecture & Furniture Design at the KABK presents ‘Image of image’ at the SaloneSatellite event during the Salone del Mobile in Milan.

‘Image of image’ is the result of a design research project in which symbols and sounds of language are expressed through design objects. Through his research Frank has designed a system that transforms language into design, resulting in prototypes of furniture objects that he presents in Milan.

“Language delivers the meaning through structure while an object tells its function through form. The significance of 'form and structure' carries the function and meaning. As a result of my research, I have designed a system that transforms onomatopoeia (imitation of sounds) into shapes and colors, more specific: the consonants shape the forms and the vowels shape the color expression of the objects.”

Moon Gallery is an international collaborative artwork and a gallery of ideas worth sending to the Moon. Moon Gallery intends to launch 100 artifacts to the Moon within the compact format of 10 x 10 x 1cm plate on a lunar lander as early as 2022.

"In this Petri dish-like gallery we are developing culture for future interplanetary society. What are the ideas we want to promote into the future? What are the ideas we want to leave behind?"

During the Salone del Mobile Milano, Moon Gallery aims to address how the challenges of space exploration drive innovative design thinking and interdisciplinary collaborations. The goal of the exhibition is to present the overall concept of the project and a selection of artist’s proposals as well as to carry out a series of lectures and workshops in order to involve the visitors and new participants.

The layout of the exhibition will be based on the modular structure of the gallery itself and will display a diverse variety of artistic ideas within a cubical framing. Democracy of the grid format allows different visions coexist and converse with each other.

Salone del Mobile Milano will bring the gallery one step further on its way to the moon!

Future Remnants by Xandra van der Eijk (alumna Bachelor Graphic Design 2008 & Master ArtScience 2011) will be shown as part of the 'New Material Award' exhibition in Alcova, Milan Design Week 2019.

Future Remnants is a research into the influence of man on the evolution of new minerals and materials. The project shows the reaction of metals to ordinary household chemical agents. With a disciplined testing methodology four metals were exposed to twelve agents by means of three techniques. Within a limited time period, reactions were observed, resulting in an extensive collection of hybrid materials. Future Remnants aims to demonstrate on a small scale what could happen, or is in fact already happening, on a large scale in the landscape.
