The event will be live-streamed at EXPOSED.KABK.NL, visiting the live presentation is upon invitation only.

On Thursday 10 September 2020, the Textile & Fashion department of The Royal Academy of Art, The Hague will kick-off the annual academy-wide 2020 KABK Graduation Show.

After having launched the digital platform exposed.kabk.nl, the Textile & Fashion graduates will now show their collections during live presentations. The patio of the Academy - a monumental modernist building - will be transformed into an arena, presenting this year's graduation collections in an event titled EXPOSED LIVE.

The class of 2020 is formed by Eva Dimopulou (GR), Hannakin Henriksson (SE), Haily Kim (KR), Hee Eun Kim (KR) and Inge Vaandering (NL). The presentation will reflect the highly personal visions on the zeitgeist of these very special times we are living in. Stepping away from the traditional catwalk concept, sharing their views directly and up close with the audience, addressing all the senses.

Additionally, the winner of the annual Keep an Eye Textile & Fashion Award will be announced by a jury of fashion professionals Patrick van Ommeslaeghe and Ireneo Ciammella. The award is worth €10.000,- and is meant to support the winning graduate in realising their ambitions after graduation.

EXPOSED LIVE is created in collaboration with curator Maarten Spruyt and designer Johannes Verwoerd.

EXPOSED 2020: ROOTS

At KABK students are educated to create and design new perspectives on future needs in a world that now more than ever tells us to slow down and reflect on our very own attitude. Due to the global outbreak of the coronavirus, the students found themselves sheltering in their own spaces with limited means for expression, turning inwards, leading to surprisingly stunning solutions.

EXPOSED 2020 is therefore titled ROOTS, a tribute to the student’s journeys inwards – in which they found how strong they are grounded in their cultural heritage and how this manifests itself in their practice.

Mark van Vorstenbos, head of the Textile & Fashion department: “Exposed 2020 is, first of all, a celebration of this unique group of talents, their impressive resilience and ability to apply boundless creativity and intuition under such challenging circumstances to develop their very own ideas and individual professional practices as the designers of our collective unknown future.”

Given the current restrictive measurements, EXPOSED LIVE can only be visited by a very small audience. It will however be live-streamed simultaneously to make it possible for everybody who wishes to join in, watch and enjoy!

After the live presentation, the students will continue to exhibit their projects non-stop live during the academy-wide KABK Graduation Show, which is held from 10 until 13 September. All information about the Graduation Show can be found on https://graduation2020.kabk.nl
