Practicum Artium electives are a one-year programme organised by the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts (ACPA), a collaboration between Leiden University, the Royal Academy of Art and the Royal Conservatoire.

The Practicum Artium electives are exclusively developed for students of Leiden University

Practicum Artium (PA) is specially developed for students of Leiden University with a talent for visual arts and an interest in artistic research. Art and research feed on one another and are intertwined in many ways. In Practicum Artium, you will explore artistic practices and methods, and connect these to your academic studies. By becoming acquainted with materials, techniques, and aesthetics, you will learn to visually express and critically reflect on your (academic) ideas.

Apply for the academic year 2024/25

You follow the PA programme for one full year and receive 10 credits if you passed the course. The programme is divided into two semesters, after each semester there is a final assessment and evaluation.

If you like to attend one of these electives you need to create an account in our online application system Osiris and follow the application procedure described below.

Applications for the academic year 20243/25 are open between 15 April and 12 June 2024

Please upload the required documents (digital portfolio and motivation letter) in Osiris. On the website of Leiden University, you may find a description of the specific requirements for each course.

Once your file is complete it will be handed over to the admission committee. The admission committee will make a decision within a week after the application deadline of 12 June 2024.

A selection of candidates will receive an invitation for an interview in June. The exact interview dates for the courses can be found in the prospectus of Leiden University. The date of the interview is non-negotiable. If you cannot free yourself for the interview, your application will be canceled.

Once you’re admitted to the course, we will contact Leiden University for a proof of enrolment for the academic year 2024-25. If this is verified you will be fully admitted to the course.
