Roosje Klap

Roosje Klap researches the experimental boundaries of custom fit design, peculiar yet collaborative, in close collaboration with artists, curators, architects, (type) designers and writers.

The research-based interdisciplinary approach represents a generation of graphic designers that define their own assignments alongside commissions. She initiated the collective Design Displacement Group, which focuses on the current discourse of graphic design in the rapid changing (media) landscape and its’ trans-disciplinary development towards other disciplines with a methodology that the group coined as ‘post-signature’.

Together with Niels Schrader, Klap is head of both the Graphic Design (BA) and the Non Linear Narrative (MA) departments at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague, where they implement both innovative and research-based design classes with a focus on crafts in typography, research, new media, storytelling and coding.

Roosje Klap is a sought-after speaker on conferences, institutes and art- and design academies around the world, discussing diverse topics revolving around gender, activism, serendipity and experimental practices of design.

Klap is a member and advisor for several committees and funds and a PhDarts candidate at the University of Leiden.
