Indrek Sirkel

Indrek Sirkel (1984, Estonia) is a graphic designer, educator and publisher based in Tallinn. He studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (BA, 2007), Jan van Eyck Academie (2008), and at the Estonian Academy of Arts (MA, 2014). In 2007–2022 he was teaching at and co-organising the programme of the Department of Graphic Design of the Estonian Academy of Arts (EKA), in 2015–2022 he was the head of the department, and in 2020–2022 the professor of Graphic Design.

Since September 2022 he is a junior researcher and a doctoral student at the Doctoral School of EKA. His research focuses on the concepts and tools graphic designers use to reproduce contemporary art in book design.

As a graphic designer he has mainly worked with cultural and contemporary art insitutions in Estonia and abroad. Together with artist Anu Vahtra, he is the co-founder of Lugemik Publishing (2010) and Bookshop (2013). In collaboration with different artists, designers, and theorists, Lugemik has published 100 titles to date. At the moment Lugemik Bookshop has two locations in Tallinn: in Kai Art Center at Noblessner and at the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design (ETDM) in Tallinn Old Town.
