Gerlov van Engelenhoven is a lecturer of courses on art, culture and postcolonial theory at the Universities of Amsterdam and Leiden, and at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.

He defended his PhD dissertation at the Gießen International Centre for the Study of Culture, Justus Liebig University, in 2020. The dissertation has a focus on matters of colonial memory and identity articulation among the Dutch-Moluccan postcolonial migrant community in the Netherlands.
