Rafaël Rozendaal is a visual artist who uses the internet as his canvas. His websites attract 50 million visits per year. He also creates installations, tapestries, lenticulars, haiku, lectures, and a podcast. He was one of the first artists who sold his website as an art object to collectors.
Besides that he initiated BYOB (Bring Your Own Beamer), an exhibition format where the participants are asked to bring their own beamer and beam their work on every wall to find. This concept is known around the world and frequently organised in all kinds of places.
The internet as a canvas
In the upcoming lecture Rafaël Rozendaal will talk about his practice and the way he uses internet. Since 2000 Rozendaal is working as an artist, working with browsers, users, numbers, exhibitions, objects, and all are approached in a similar way of working.
Bio – Rafaël Rozendaal (Amsterdam, 1980) is a Dutch-Brazilian visual artist currently living and working in New York City. He attended the Art Academy in Maastricht, The Netherlands, and graduated in 2002. He presented his work in many places: Times Square, Centre Pompidou, Venice Biennial, TSCA Gallery Tokyo, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. He is also published in many magazines such as: Time magazine, Dazed & confused, Wired and Vogue.
