Opening expo 'Want the Unwanted'- afgelast

In het kader van de nieuwe maatregelen i.v.m. coronavirus blijft de KB tenminste t/m 6 april gesloten.

KB, National Library of the Netherlands and the Master Industrial Design (MID) are delighted to invite you to ‘Want the Unwanted’; an evening on repair within design and its impact on society, ecology and culture.

Can designers evoke a desire for maintenance and repair?

This past semester our first-year students explored what role repair can play when designing objects. Material culture was at the core of their explorations: the connection between humans to material objects, the role these objects and their manufacturing play socially, culturally, economically and ecologically.

Our students researched relevant and topical implementations of repair within design and the industrial field under the guidance of designer Jesse Howard and design researcher Yassine Salihine. During this evening they will present their findings: a wide range of innovative designs and new directions for the industry.

There’s more!

Curator and writer Joanna van der Zanden will present her Repair Manifesto and the social movement of the Repair Café.
KB curator Kees Teszelszky will reflect on the themes of ‘wanted’ and ‘unwanted’ within the context of the library’s collection.
