Sonny Roffel, student Textile and Fashion is awarded with the Masterly Young Talent Award 2013. He will show his work from 29 November till 1 December 2013 at the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam during the ‘Meesterlijk’ event.

Fashiondesigner Claes Iversen (graduated from the Textile and Fashion department in 2006) has designed a special Royal inaugural medal witin the context of the abdication and investiture on April 30th 2013.

Are you a young filmmaker between 15 and 30 years old? And are you not yet graduated from an art academy? Then the organisation of the Young Art Short Film Award would like to receive your short film. Categories are: animation, docu, fiction and experimental.
For our new project we're looking for someone who could shoot 3 short video's (in 3 languages) for us and edit them. In the beginning and middle of March we would like to start working on it and at the end of March it needs to finished. We don't have professional equipment, but you could use our GoPro. Marieke Schoenmakers new Director of the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague.
As of 1 January 2014 Marieke Schoenmakers has taken up her appointment as the new Director of the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK). Next to this she has taken a seat on the Board of Governors of the University of Arts, The Hague. Henk van der Meulen, Director of the Royal Conservatoire and currently Deputy Chairman of the Board of Governors will take up the role of Chairman on the same date. Marieke Schoenmakers will succeed Jack Verduyn Lunel, who will retire in January 2014. The Supervisory Board, the KABK and the University of Arts, The Hague, have all expressed their pleasure at this appointment. Chairman of the Supervisory Board Sjoerd Eisma: “With her professional experience in arts education and her affinity with design and the visual arts, we at the Royal Academy of Art believe we have found an inspirational new Director.”

A panel made up of eight international experts from the world of fine arts and design visited the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK) in October 2013 under the chairmanship of Prof. Janwillem Schrofer, former president of the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. They assessed each study programme according to three standards, with possible scores including unsatisfactory, satisfactory, good and excellent. This week, the panel gave their final assessment: the Bachelor in Fine Arts (ArtScience and Fine Arts departments) received two scores of ‘good’ and one ‘excellent’ and the Bachelor in Design (Photography, Graphic Design, Interactive/Media/Design, Interior Architecture and Furniture Design and Textile and Fashion departments) was rated ‘excellent’ three times.
The Master of Design in Type and Media was also assessed by an international panel in October. The panel was chaired by Prof. Erik Spiekermann, acknowledged internationally as one of the leading experts in typefaces and typography. The panel also rated Type and Media ‘excellent’ three times.
The Royal Academy of Art, The Hague presents the exhibition THIS IS THE SCHOOL AND THE SCHOOL IS MANY THINGS which brings together the works of 11 alumni: Jessica de Boer, Gilles de Brock, Yair Callender, Vera Herr, Anouk van Klaveren, Nynke Koster, Femmy Otten, Willem Popelier, Johan Pragt, Martijn Rigters and Nikkie Wester.
In light of the publication of the fourth edition of AR[t] magazine, the launch of the Royal Academy of Art’s workshops website and the Research Department IVT’s acknowledgement as a so-called centre point digital visualisation and production techniques in art education, a mini-conference will be hosted on Thursday 28 November 2013.

Roosje Klap (Head of Graphic Design) & Claudia Linders (Head of Interior Architecture & Furniture Design) designed the third commemorative two euro coin within the context of 200 years Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Out of a selection of 11 design proposals, Linders’ and Klap’s proposal was chosen as the winning design. On 25 November 2013 the new eurocoin was presented to the public by the vice president of the 'Raad van State' Piet Hein Donner.
Thursday November 14th at 16:00 City Council Member of Culture Marjolein de Jong will announce the winner of the ‘Prijs voor Haags Toptalent 2013’.

As every year the Morelato company will produce the prototype of the winning project which will become part of the permanent collection of the MAAM, Museum for applied Art in the Furniture Field of the Foundation.
For the 2014 edition there are two major awards:
• First Prize “The Aldo Morelato Foundation – Opera Project” of € 5,000.00 (for professionals);
• The Student Awatd of € 2,500.00 (for students).
Integrated2013 is an international platform where students and professionals from the field of art and design can meet and exchange knowledge. New technologies and strategies will be discussed and looked at from multiple viewpoints. Tickets for students/teachers are 75 euros.
The winner will receive the prize of 10,000 PLN (about 2300 euro). Works of the winner and eight finalists will be presented at the exhibition during Fotofestiwal in June 2014 and as a slide show during international festivals of photography.

Voor het tweede jaar in successie daagt het Cibap talent uit, om deel te nemen aan de Cibap Ontwerpprijs. Dit jaar gaat het om het maken van een ontwerp voor een woon- of modeaccessoire, dat geprint wordt met een 3D printer. In het ontwerp gaan functionaliteit en design samen.Dick van Hoff, ontwerper en docent aan de Design Academie Eindhoven verbindt zich dit jaar als voorzitter van de jury aan de ontwerpprijs van het Cibap. Zijn motief: “Creativiteit ligt ten grondslag aan nieuwe ontwikkelingen, ik draag hier graag aan bij.”

The New Institute announced the HOT100 2013 recently. They presented a selection of the best recently graduated artists and designers in the fields of art, media and technology. Four of our alumni are listed in this top 100: Menno van den Berg from Interactive/Media/Design and Marloes van Son, Daniel Berio and Nenad Popov from ArtScience. On 27 & 28 september 2013 during TodaysArt Festival in The Hague these alumni will present their works. The New Institute is a merger between Nederlands Architectuur Instituut, Premsela, Dutch Institute for Design and Fashion and Virtueel Platform.
Nest invites all students of all departments to reflect or react to the importance of 'the ego' within the context of the exhibition 'Me, Myself and I'. Selected students will receive an intensive acquaintance with the world of contemporary art in October and November. Their work will be regarded and criticized by curators, writers and art professionals with the aim to reach the appropriate level for exhibition in a public art space.

Vond. A is Roodkapje's experimental art jam session during which four individual artists create a collaborative interdisciplinary work. Their time-based disciplines such as video, sound, performance and installation art synthesize and form a new dimension. The audience plays an active and passive part in the process and thus produces and consumes this work simultaneously. This way the audience can experience both the process and the outcome.

The ninth edition of TodaysArt will transform the former ministries of Internal Affairs and Justice. These iconic towers - 124.000 M2 of currently vacant space - are located in the geographical and political city centre of The Hague right next to the Spuiplein, the traditional heart of the festival. In addition, the festival will take place in the City Hall’s Atrium and the public space in between these buildings.
On Tuesday 18 June 2013, from 11.45 till 13.00 hrs, the Centre for Innovation in The Hague will organise their first Inspiration Lab session. Head of the AR Lab, Yolande Kolstee, and professor at Leiden University, Robert Zwijnenberg will present their views on art and technology during this event. The importance of art and technology in education and future research are up for discussion.

Smits graduated from the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague in 2010. His works were part of the Best of Graduates Show 2010 at Galerie Ron Mandos in Amsterdam. Since then his highly detailed drawings have succeeded to build a notable following of his work. Premiering at the Volta Show will be his first 3D-work entitled Capital One.
On February 18th the Mondriaan Foundation announced the names of the fifty artists nominated for the Prix de Rome 2013. The artists were selected by a group of 35 scouts, comprising artists, critics and curators. Among the nominees are 7 former students of the KABK.
