Artistic Research (ma)
The seven graduates of the Master Artistic Research, KABK The Hague, warmly invite you to their graduation show: ‘The great escape’. This presentation is the conclusion of the two year-trajectory in which they have been intensively working as individual artists and together as a group.
As every graduating artist is unique in her or his approach, so is the group dynamic that has evolved out of this assembly. A graduation show is a temporary constellation, condensing and etching the lines that meet, intersect, aggregate and/or diverge. And as every marriage is marked by perpetual and never-ending endings, the outcome of their hard work will be celebrated as group exhibition, articulating these points of connection.
The graduating artists have searched deeply into the fabric of our time.
In this exhibition they explore topical issues such as: the post-human, the entan-glement of politics and religion, ecology, the constraining and liberating potentials of language and space, the object of looking as looking at looking, the continuing ech-oes of historically burdened contact, the relation between media, ideology and belief, and the differential between inertia and accelerated production as answer to the combined economics of production and exposure.
This innate condition of artistic production, requires such a moment of standstill, to muster progress and outcome. There is no escape from that, and it is also precisely there where the tensions between production within the conditions of our times, and its critical reflection become a potential.
The task at hand was to collectively detect the specific artistic signatures in treating these themes and to turn these into a group-show.
There is a publication as that acts as supplement to the show.
The title The great escape was chosen by the graduates.
The opening is on the 3rd of July, 17:00.
