|Expo: The Flipside
14 Dec 2016 - 28 Jan 2017 | Het Nutshuis, The Hague
The Flipside is a group exhibition by three graduating Photogrphy students of the Royal Academy of Art The Hague: Annija Muižule, Muriel Schouten and Katarina Gališinová.
In collaboration with and under the guidance of Het Nutshuis they have each developed an individual project. Their plans were selected from fifteen ideas submitted by students graduating in the current school year.
For this exhibition, The Flipside, the three photographers went in search of a reality not immediately visible to the public at large. Annija explores the world behind stock photography and questions its impact on the way we perceive images in informational material and advertisements. Muriel became fascinated by a photo featured on the front page of the Volkskrant newspaper. In this photo an Islamic man was associated with terrorism. She reached out to the man and they came to discuss what it's like to be defined as ‘the Other’. Within her project, Muriel also examines her own prejudices. Katarina has joined We Are Here FC, a unique football team. The photographer engages her audience with her enthusiasm and admiration for these heroes.
