Interior Architecture Workshop

As a contribution to the Biennale, the Flanders Architecture institute has initiated a project entitled ‘Beauty, Scarcity and Community’ that is a collaboration between the interior design faculties KU Leuven, TU Delft, UHasselt, UAntwerpen and KABK, with students and lecturers from these Flemish and Dutch institutes researching the relation interior-house-city.

Briefing workshop:
The subtitle of the Kortrijk Biennale 25th edition is Interiors thus hinting at the idea of the interior as a designed i.e. organized space in which furniture and objects are incorporated as contextual elements instead of isolated trophies, for example… but, do we recognize and appreciate the bigger story?

The setting is a soon to be demolished industrial hangar, a former factory at Vlaskaai 1, in Kortrijk-city. The idea is to design and build a spatial and public installation – in the five days prior to the opening of the expo and with use of the locally available materials including the hangar itself.

Themes are the potential and memory of the site and the performativity in interior architecture scale 1:1.
The Goal is to highlight interior architecture and the collaboration before, during and after the fair through a self-communicating project with a defined presence.

VLASKAAI: Home of research and experimentation during INTERIEUR 2016

The industrial building VLASKAAI, located next to the Texture Museum and the North Bridge, is the home of research and experimentation during INTERIEUR 2016. A series of interventions will take place:

Two Dutch (TUDelft & KABK Den Haag) and three Belgian (KU Leuven, UHasselt and UAntwerpen) architecture schools join forces and bring a performative installation entitled ‘Schoonheid, Schaarste en Gemeenschap’, which translates as ‘Beauty, Scarcity and Community’.

The same three Belgian universities also add the discussion “What is the Future of Interiors Education” to the programme. It translates into an installation, a machine thats allows visitors to look at the system of relationships between digital and physical, interior and exterior, commercial and theoretical.
