Street Designers wanted!

Can you influence and improve the quality of a district, and in particular that of the The Hague neighbourhood the Schilderswijk? During the Research Lab NEXT DOOR you will research public space in the Hague Schilderswijk, while you are stationed at the local incubator Design Research Station 22 (DRS22). During this research, you’ll work experimentally with your own approach and method. Research and implementation go hand in hand, you will learn from trying. You will work towards a tryout where your ideas are tested and registered on location 1:1. Your results and conclusions are presented in a joint final publication.

How is the public space of the district allotted, and who determines this? Which objects do people use on the street? Does the clothes that people wear change during the day? Who maintains the outside furniture and greenery? What kind of annoyances are at play? What do people do alone and what do people do together? What happens at night? What economic earning models function around the Schilderswijk, and which new services can be developed with local entrepreneurs?

Researchers and supervisors: Krijn Christiaansen, Cathelijne Montens, Sophie Krier, Claudia Linders, Renate Boere, Ed van Hinte.
