Three awards for cultural apps made by KABK students
1-3-2012

KABK Award

In the fall of 2011 the organizers of The Hague 2018 invited students of the Royal Academy of Art to come up with an idea for an interactive app wich aims to inspire people from The Hague as well as tourists and expats to explore the hidden culture of the city. Three IMD students and two Graphic Designs students were awarded.

About 40 teams of the Royal Academy of Art presented their ideas in February 2012. Interactive Media Design student Martin Overmars won the inspiration award for 'Eavesdropping' in which the user is guided to specific sites by overhearing fragments of oral stories in the street.

The profundity award went to Marcel Schepen and Sanne Groenendaal, both Graphic Design students, for 'Behind the city' which invites the user to look behind the facades of shops and buildings, explore the history of the sites and look ahead to the future.

Eva van Loon and Lauren Spencer (Interactive Media Design) won the target group orientation award for 'Follow' or 'Underground The Hague' which stimulates young people to form communities, make new friends and share and explore their cultural interest in the hidden 'underground' cultures which are so characteristic of The Hague.
