Alumni in 'Slow Tech' exhibition
Saturday 4 October - Saturday 29 November in WOW Amsterdam

Interior Architecture

The exhibition ‘Slow Tech’ features 11 chairs that fuse experimental materials or an innovative production technique to a craft-base process. It is a fusion of high tech en slow crafts. The Knotted Chair by Marcel Wanders will be presented as ‘the mother of all slow tech chairs’ and will literally be the centre piece. Among the 10 other chairs that are grouped around the Knotted Chair, there are chairs by IAFD alumni Rutger de Regt, Maarten Schenkeveld and Martijn Rigters.

BACK STAGE ON STAGE, the presentation of the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, (KABK) was a great success attracting 35.000 visitors at the renowned design fair Salone Internazionale del Mobile, Milan. This year's edition of the Salone was held from 8 to 13 April 2014. With BACK STAGE ON STAGE The Royal Academy of Art literally put the creative process in the limelight: the presentation consisted of a continuous programme of performances and happenings, whereby drafts and products were created, shared, shown and dismantled on stage! The trans-disciplinary programme gave room to all artistic disciplines in design and fine art. Please see attachment for more information on the presentation in Milan.

ArtScience Interfaculty presents a multi faceted preview exhibition with ‘The Royal Institute of Hydra Studies’. Since 2011, the ArtScience Interfaculty at the Royal Academy of the Arts and the Royal Conservatory of Den Haag have organized an exhibition to showcase the graduation works by bachelor and master students in their final stages. The preview exhibition is always headed by a theme, and this year’s is The Royal Institute of Hydra Studies. The Royal Institute of Hydra Studies is a way of presenting 11 different artistic practices in a cohesive manner; a creature of many heads that nevertheless belong to one body.

On 4 February 2014, Graphic Design student Tereza Rullerová (1987) has been awarded by the Dutch Ministry of Finance a grant of EUR 500 for her project Dutch Education, contributing to the exhibition What’s inside the ‘koffer’?. The jury commended not only the high quality of her video clip, but also the successful interdisciplinary execution and her courage to pose tough questions like ‘Does your government have it under control?’.

Value of Nothing

We are very proud to announce that six students of the Fine Arts department will be presenting their works in the exhibition The Value of Nothing at TENT. In the past two months the students of the autonomous and 3D section have been working on a collaborative project, related to the running exhibition The Value of Nothing. On the 4th of November they have presented their works to a jury, consisting of Judith Vorwerk, Gil & Moti, Michel van Dartel and Jesse van Oosten, in the academy. Based on these presentations the jury has chosen three duos to exhibit their works in TENT, opening on the 14th of November at 16:00.

Heads of Graphic Design & Interior Architecture and Furniture Design department design new Dutch two euro coin

KABK

Roosje Klap (Head of Graphic Design) & Claudia Linders (Head of Interior Architecture & Furniture Design) designed the third commemorative two euro coin within the context of 200 years Kingdom of the Netherlands. Out of a selection of 11 design proposals, Linders’ and Klap’s proposal was chosen as the winning design.
