Write your own name, a thought or a short poem using 3D letters in Augmented Reality!
24 January 2007

For the Open Day of the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague on January 27, 2007 AR+RFID Lab is preparing a new presentation in Augmented Reality combining interior design, typography and interaction design. Vistors of the Open Day will get an opportunity to see and experience a virtual, typographic interior placed in the entrance hall of KABK and write text in augmented space using 3D, animated letters attached to tangible optical markers (fiducials). Do not miss the show and be there on Saturday, January 27 from 10.00 till 16.00!

Augmented Reality Scenario Workshop
27 November 2006

Various partners of the AR+RFID Lab from the field of art, design, technology, education, business and management took part in the Augmented Reality Scenario Workshop organized at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague. Inspired by a set of interesting presentations by Jeroen van Erp from Fabrique, a student team from Haagse Hogeschool (HSS), Pieter Jonker from TU Delft and a demonstration of AR by Jurjen Caarls, the participants discussed different concepts of projects based on Augmented Reality technologies.

Champion league of soccer robots
30 October 2006

Delft Universtity of Technology (TU Delft) has donated three middle size soccer robots to our AR+RFID Lab. The robots were taking part in the RoboCup finals in late 90's. Some of the pattern recognition technologies the robots use are similar to the ones applied in Augmented Reality headsets. Though partly incompatible with current computer devices, the soccer robots are still functional and ready to be programmed in C++ using integrated image processing libraries.

Opening of the AR+RFID Lab at the Royal Academy of Art
8 September 2006

Our AR+RFID Lab is officially open. Jurjen Caarls from TU Delft prepared a demonstration of the Augmented Reality headset using 3D models and animations created in the workshop of Wim van Eck and Pawel Pokutycki. Volunteers from the audience could test our headset and experience Augmented Reality by playing a simple game demo with 3D asteroids.

AR+RFID LAB TODAY

New AR headset
AR+RFID Lab is currently developing a new AR headset with use of a brand new Head Mounted Display Visette 45 SXGA.

Our playground
Wim van Eck prepared a detailed 3D model of Blijenburg, part of the building of the Royal Academy of Art, just few meters from the location of our Lab. This space can now be used as a test environment for our Augmented Reality projects, demonstrations and workshops with students. Besides that Jurjen Caarls is working on software for easy integration of 3D models and animations in Augmented Reality. So just make a .3ds (Studio 3D Max) or .c4d (Cinema 4D) file, upload it to the AR system with just few mouse clicks and go to meet your 3D objects in real space!
