General information

AR+RFID Lab is subsidised by SIA/RAAK grant programme:
Interactive visualization technologies in art and design

AR+RFID Lab is a collaboration initiative of the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague, Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and local companies in creative industry focusing on the development of innovative applications of emerging ubiquitous computing technologies in the field of art and design. Funded for the second time by the SIA/RAAK grant programme in the academic year 2007-2008, the AR+RFID Lab works on projects based on Augmented Reality (AR) and Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) technologies.

Augmented Reality (AR) is a field of computer research which deals with the combination of real world and computer generated data. At present, most AR research is concerned with the use of live video imagery which is digitally processed and "augmented" by the addition of computer generated graphics. Advanced research includes the use of motion tracking data, fiducial marker recognition using machine vision, and the construction of controlled environments containing any number of sensors and actuators.

Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) is an automatic identification method, relying on storing and remotely retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or transponders. An RFID tag is an object that can be attached to or incorporated into a product, animal, or person for the purpose of identification using radio waves.
